WINDOWS:
Select the VM with the VMware VSphere Client and then select the context menu Guest OS->Update VMware Tools with the right mouse button. After that a CD with the Guest-Tools software appears in the VM.
If the installation does not start via the automatically, you have to start the setup directly from the CD. Please install the tools with the suggested settings.
You will get an "empty shell" and have to install the operating system yourself. In the VMware tools are adjustments for the respective operating system (graphics, network, etc.) and can only be installed afterwards.
LINUX (manual installation):
- Select "Install VMware Tools" from the context menu.
- The CD will be inserted
- Unpack the TAR file on the CD: VMwareTools-x.x.x-yyy.tar.gz -> vmware-tools-distrib
- Change into the directory vmware-tools-distrib
- run sudo ./vmware-install.pl and accept the suggested settings
- restart the VM -> done
LINUX (APT):
apt-get install open-vm-tools
